Linear Motion Flashcards
Lesson 14 (12 cards)
Define Linear Motion
Linear Motion is motion in a straight or curved line, with all body parts moving at the same distance at the same speed at the same time
Define Mass
The quantity of matter a body possess
Define weight and give the calculation
The force on a given mass by gravity
Weight= Mass x Gravity
Define Distance
The length of the path a body follows when moving from one position to another
Define Displacement
The length of a straight line joining the start and finish points
Remember ‘As the crow flies’
Always involves direction
Define speed and give the equation
‘The rate of change of position
speed(M/s) = distance (M) over Time(Secs)
Define velocity and give the equation
‘The rate of change of displacement’ velocity is speed with direction
Velocity (M/s) = Displacement (M) over time (Secs)
What is the general definition for Acceleration and Deceleration
The rate of change of velocity
Define Acceleration
Is the rate of increase in velocity
Define Deceleration
is the rate of decrease in velocity
What are Scalar quantities?
Only take into consideration magnitude (Size)
What are Vector quantities?
Remember “My names Vector committing crimes with both direction and magnitude oh yeah!”
Take both magnitude (Size) and Direction into consideration
