Momentum Flashcards
Lesson 15 (6 cards)
Define Momentum
Momentum is the product of mass x Velocity
What is the equation for momentum
Momentum= Mass(Kg) x Velocity (ms)
P=MV
What is said about Momentum and change of Momentum
-The momentum of an object will never change if it is left alone (momentum is preserved) unless it is interfered with.
-Momentum is Constant
- if Mass and Velocity value remains the same Momentum will remain the same
When do changes to momentum happen?
Changes in momentum will only happen as a result of change in velocity
(Acceleration or deceleration caused by an external force)
Define Inertia
The resistance an object has to change its state of motion
what does an increase of mass do to inertia
inertia will increase as mass increases
- The bigger the object the harder it is to overcome its inertia
- Greater the mass greater the force needed to overcome it
