Lipids Flashcards
(7 cards)
Lipids
They are not polymers they are composed of glycerol and fatty acid chains
Lipases
Breaks down lipids into fatty acids and glycerol
Triglycerides molecules formation
It is the bonding of three fatty acids to glycerol in a condensation reaction where an ester bond is formed releasing a water molecule
Phospholipids formation
It is the bonding of a phosphate head to glycerol and two fatty acids in a condensation reaction where an ester bond is formed
Types of fat
Saturated fat
Unsaturated fat
Saturated fat
Has no double bond in its fatty acids
Solid at room temperature
Cause we fatty deposits in blood vessels
Unsaturated fats
Have double bond in the fatty acids chain
Less solid at room temperature
Do not clog arteries
