Liver Flashcards
(13 cards)
Reticulin stain
Silver stain. Highlights the reticular network surrounding (deliminating) liver sinusoids
Acute fulminant liver failure
Occurs within 26 weeks from initial liver injury
With or without preexisting liver disease
Acute fulminant liver failure caused by
Massive hepatic necrosis
Hepatic encephalopathy can be caused by
Acute liver failure
Cirrhosis is associated with what type of liver failure
Chronic
Cirrhosis liver staining
Connective tissue stain- Masson’s trichrome- highlights COLLAGEN
Assessment of coagulability due to liver disease is done by
Prothrombin time
Acute hepatitis- bridging necrosis
A confluence necrosis connecting the portal tract to terminal venues. Best seen with reticulin stain.
Chronic hepatitis defining histological character
Mononuclear PORTAL infiltration
Interface hepatitis
A chronic hepatitis histological pattern, includes:
- inflammatory lymphocytes infiltration
- hepatocyes necrosis (immediately surrounding portal tracts)
hepatitis B ground glass appearance (histo)
Due to CYTOPLASMIC depositions of HBsAg
Feathery degeneration of hepatocytes
Droplets of bile pigments accumulate within hepatocytes, take on a fine foamy appearance.
- cholestasis
- obstruction of extrahepatic bile ducts
Ascending cholangitis
Indicated a BACTERIAL infection of the INTRAhepatic bile ducts!!!
