1

Iliacus Action

Flex thigh at hip (trunk fixed)
Flex trunk at hip (thigh fixed)

2

Iliacus Origin

Iliac crest and fossa
Superolateral region of the sacrum
anterior sacroiliac and iliolumbar ligaments

3

Iliacus Insertion

Lesser trochanter and nearby shaft of femur

4

Iliacus Innervation

Femoral Nerve

5

Psaos Major Action

Same as iliacus

6

Psoas Major Origin

Bodies and intervertebral discs of vertebrae T12-L5
Transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae

7

Psoas Major Insertion

Lesser trochanter and nearby shaft of femur

8

Psoas Major Innervation

Anterior rami of lumbar spinal nerves

9

TFL Action

Extends knee
Laterally rotates tibia
Aids in abduction and medial rotation of the femur
during standing - steadies pelvis on femoral head and steadies femoral condyles on tibia

10

TFL Origin

Iliac crest
anterior superior spine
deep surface of facia lata

11

TFL Insertion

Lateral condyle of tibia via iliotibial band

12

TFL Innervation

Inferior gluteal nerve

13

Gluteus Maximus Action

Extends thigh at hip
abducts thigh
elevates trunk after stooping
prevents trunk from pitching forward during walking anf running
helps stabilise femur on tibia

14

Glute Max Origin

Posterior gluteal line of ilium, on posterior surface from iliac crest to posterior superior spine
coccyx
posterior surface of lower sacrum
aponeurosis of erector spinae

15

Glute Max Insertion

Gluteal tuberosity of femur
lateral condyle of tibia via iliotibial band

16

Glute Max Innervation

Inferior gluteal nerve

17

Glute Med and Min Action

abduct and medially rotate thigh

18

Glute Med and Min Origin

Most of the lateral surface of ilium between crest and acetabulum

19

Glute Med and Min Insertion

Greater Trochanter of femur

20

Glute Med and Min Innervation

Superior Gluteal nerve

21

Gemellus Superior Action

Laterally rotate thigh
abducts flexed thigh
SOmetimes absent

22

Gemellus Superior Origin

Ischial spine

23

Gemellus Superior Insertion

Greater trochanter of femur

24

Gemellus Superior Innervation

Nerve to obturator internus

25

Gemellus Inferior Action

Same as GS

26

Gemellus Inferior Origin

Ischial Tuberosity

27

Gemellus Inferior Insertion

Greater trochanter of femur

28

Gemellus Inferior Innervation

Nerve to Quadratus femoris

29

Obturator Externus Action

Thought to laterally rotate thigh in climbing

30

Obturator Externus Origin

External surface of obturator membrane
rami of pubis and ishium
