Lungs Flashcards
(10 cards)
Which prinicpal bronchus is more likely to have foreign bodies stuck in it and why?
the right because it is wider, shorter, and more vertical
The right and left principal bronchi are inferior to which arches?
the right is inferior to the arch of the azygos vein and the left is inferior to the arch of the aorta
What are special about bronchopulmonary segments?
They are pyrimidal in shape, have their own segmental bronchus and segmental pulmonary artery, and can be removed surgically if diseased
where is the pulmonary artery in relation to the primary bronchus for the right and left lung?
Right: the artery is to the left of it
Left: the artery is superior
The pulmonary vessels (1st circulatory pathway in the lungs) uses the O2 we breath in. How?
The pulmonary arteries carry deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs where the lungs oxygenate it and then it goes to the pulmonary veins where it travels back to the heart (left atrium) and is circulated
The bronchial vessels do not use direct O2 we breath to oxygenate the lung tissue. How?
Left bronchial arteries (2) originate from the the descending thoracic aorta; the right bronchial artery originates from a right posterior intercostal artery or left bronchial artery
Where does superficial lymphatic drainage go?
bronchopulmonary lymph nodes
Where does deep lymphatic drainage go?
bronchopulmonary nodes, tracheobronchial nodes, paratracheal nodes, bronchomediastinal lymph trunks, then L goes to the thoracic duct and R goes to the Lymphatic duct
What do sympathetic motor fibers cause?
bronchodilation and decreased glandular secretion
What do parasympathetic motor fibers cause?
bronchoconstriction and increased glandular secretion
