M1.4 — 2 Flashcards
(14 cards)
What does the somatic nervous system do?
- voluntary control of the body movements via skeletal muscles
- controls all functions we are aware of and those we influence consciously
What type of somesthetic information travels anterolateral (ventral)?
pain, temp, touch, deep pressure
how many different segments of nerves in the somatic nervous system?
43
- 12 pairs cranial nerves
- 31 pairs spinal nerves
affarent and efferent
reflex arc for reflexive movements
What type of somesthetic information travels posterior (dorsal)?
fine tactile and kinesthetic sensations
Where are olfactory receptors? what do the axons penetrate to form the olfactory nerve?
epithelium on walls of nasal cavity
cribiform plate (100 million axons)
*covid targeted these receptors
what is anosmia? what are causes
loss of smell - bilateral or unilateral
- common cold, fracture of cribiform plate or ethmoid bone, covid
What reflexes occur from the superior colliculus
- where optic nerve fibers terminate
- tracking objects in the contralateral visual field
- reactions controlling head and eye movements to bring objects into focus
- follicular neurons respond best to interesting or moving stimuli
- eye fixation and tracking ability
what is somatosomatic response?
reflex response that occurs when a noxious stimulus is applied to a somatic structure: withdrawal response
what is a somatovisceral response?
localized somatic stimulation produces patterns of reflex in segmentally related visceral structures: spinal manipulation affecting visceral functioning via ANS
what is a viscerosomatic response?
localized visceral stimuli produces patterns of reflex response in segmentally related somatic structure: asthma and upper thoracic dysfunction
what is viscerovisceral response?
localized visceral stimuli produces patterns of reflex in segmentally related visceral structures
What is stereognosis?
tactile discrimination
what is astereogenesis?
disturbance of discrimination
what is allocheria
false localization of sensation
