Site

A

predominantly males (90%, mostly Italian, Jewish, and Slavic ancestry),

typically presents on the skin of lower extremities with late visceral
Oral lesions are rare and affect the palate and midline of the tongue.

Clinically presents as multiple bluish-purple macules and plaques that grow slowly into painless tumor nodules and bleed easily.

Q

What are the subtypes of the Endemic type Kaposi’s sarcoma in Africa?

A

Benign nodular, just like classic type but in young age (25-40

Aggressive infiltrative type, locally invasive lesions

Florid form, rapidly progressive &

and a unique lymphadenopathic type.
affect young black African
children presenting with generalized rapidly growing tumors of
lymphnodes

23
Q

Describe the introgenic immunosuppression associated Kaposi’s sarcoma.

A

Occurs in immunosuppressed patients after organ transplantation due to decreased cellular immunity and is more aggressive than the classic type.

24
Q

Describe the AIDS-associated Kaposi’s sarcoma.

A

Affects young age and involves the head and neck in about half of the cases.

25
What are the three stages of Kaposi's sarcoma based on histopathological features?
Patch stage, Plaque stage, and Nodular stage.
26
Describe the histopathological features of the Patch stage of Kaposi's sarcoma.
Mass of irregular vascular capillaries with perivascular cuffing by plasma cells and lymphocytes; can be difficult to differentiate from granuloma.
27
Describe the histopathological features of the Plaque stage of Kaposi's sarcoma.
Added angiomatous growth showing more spindle cell proliferation (endothelial cells). زياده في نمو الأوعية الدمويه
28
Describe the histopathological features of the Nodular stage of Kaposi's sarcoma.
Increased proliferation of spindle cells, increased extravasated RBCs around slit-like vascular spaces, شقوق and increased signs of malignancy with evident mitotic activity.
29
What is the definition of lymphoma?
Malignant tumor of lymphocytes (B or T).
30
Where are common sites for lymphoma?
Lymph nodes and extranodal tissues, including lymphoid associated mucosa (Waldeyer's ring) and skeletal tissue cervical lymph node • It is rare in mout
31
What are the two main types of lymphoma?
Non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's.
32
What age group is typically affected by Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma? Site
Adults. soft palate & posterior third of the tongue
33
How is Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma graded histologically?
Low, intermediate, and high grade. my be diffuse (solid sheets of lymphocytes) or follicular Immunohistochemical marker:(LCA: leucocyte common antigen مهم
34
Where are common sites for Hodgkin's disease? الاعراض
Cervical lymph nodes are frequently involved Rare intraorally S&S: low grade fever, night sweat, weight loss Usually accompany the diseas مهمه
35
What is the hallmark histopathological feature of Hodgkin's lymphoma?
Identification of Reed-Sternberg giant cells with paired (mirror-image or owl eye) nuclei.
36
What are the four types of Hodgkin's lymphoma?
Lymphocyte predominant, Lymphocyte Depletion, Mixed cellularity, and Nodular sclerosis.
37
How is Burkitt's lymphoma classified? اسبابه
High-grade undifferentiated Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Epstein Barr virus (EBV
38
What age group is most commonly affected by Burkitt's lymphoma?
Children (peak prevalence around 7 years).
39
What are common sites for Burkitt's lymphoma?
It is predominantly extranodal, بيطلع بره الغدد الليمفاوية and the jaw is a common site (posteriorly and maxilla more than mandible).
40
What are the signs and symptoms of Burkitt's lymphoma in the jaw?
minimal pain, tenderness, and paresthesia, and marked tooth mobility.
41
What are the radiographic findings of Burkitt's lymphoma in bone?
ill-defined margins, and patchy loss of lamina dura is an early sign.
42
Describe the histopathological features of Burkitt's lymphoma.
undifferentiated small uncleaved B-lymphocytes with a "starry sky" appearance.
43
What is the most common type of primary malignant tumor of bone?
Osteosarcoma (osteogenic sarcoma). 7% occur in the jaw.
44
What are the signs and symptoms of osteosarcoma in the jaw?
Slowly growing painful swelling (3-4 cm), loosening of teeth, paresthesia, and nasal obstruction.
45
What are the radiographic findings of osteosarcoma?
Early changes: Symmetric widening of the periodontal ligament space around involved teeth In 25% of cases show the classic sunburst or sun ray appearance in occlusal films
46
What is the essential histopathological feature of osteosarcoma?
Osteoid production by the tumor cells. بون غير طبيعي
47
What are the subclassifications of osteosarcomas based on the tissue produced by tumor cells?
Osteoblastic, Chondroblastic, and Fibroblastic osteosarcomas.
48
Describe the histopathological features of Osteoblastic osteosarcoma.

49
Describe the histopathological features of Chondroblastic osteosarcoma.
Often composed of malignant cartilage.
50
Describe the histopathological features of Fibroblastic osteosarcoma.
Often composed of malignant fibroblasts attered osteoid tissue formation which if not present it will be difficult to be distinguished from fibrosarcom
51
What is the characteristic feature of chondrosarcomas?
Formation of cartilage by the tumor cells, not bone.
52
What age group and sex are commonly affected by chondrosarcomas?
Mean age 33 years; males > females. شبه ال osteosarcoma
53
What are the radiographic findings of chondrosarcomas?
Ill-defined radiolucent areas with variable scattered radiopaque foci (calcification or ossification of the cartilage matrix). Penetration of the cortex can appear in a sunburst pattern (similar to osteosarcoma). Root resorption and symmetric widening of the periodontal ligament may also be seen.
54
Describe the histopathological features of chondrosarcomas.
Reveals a lobular pattern separated by fibrous connective tissue septa. The lobules are composed of cartilage with variable degrees of maturation, cellularity, and typical lacunar formation, especially in well-differentiated tumors. Central areas show the greatest maturation, while peripheral areas consist of immature mesenchymal tissue with round or spindle cells. Foci of calcification may be noted.
