(54 cards)
What is the definition of fibrosarcoma?
Age
Site
الاعراض
Gross section:
It is a malignant tumor of fibrous tissue.
young adult &children
site: nose & paranasal sinuses
cheeck,lip,palate
slowly growing painless mass→large
mass that is painfull
Gross section: fish-flesh masses that are
rarely encapsulated
What are the key histopathological features of fibrosarcoma?
interlacing bands of fibroblasts with streaming or herringbone pattern.
Well-differentiated more collagen and less dysplasia,
poorly differentiated is less collagen, highly cellular, with more mitosis and more pleomorphism.
What does a “herringbone pattern” in fibrosarcoma refer to?
It refers to a pattern resembling
the skeleton of a herring fish.
What is the definition of malignant fibrous histiocytoma?
It is a malignant tumor of
fibrous tissue and histiocytes (biphasic tumors). نوعين وجايه من اسم الورم
What age group is typically affected by malignant fibrous histiocytoma?
Site
Symptoms
Old age group.
: rare in head &neck
it is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults
: expanding mass that may or may not
be painful or ulcerated
What are the histological subtypes of malignant fibrous histiocytoma?
Storiform Pleomorphic
, Myxoid,
Giant cell,
and Angiomatoid.
Describe the histopathological features of the Storiform Pleomorphic subtype of malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
It is the most common subtype and consists of short fascicles of spindle cells in a storiform pattern admixed.
What is the definition of liposarcoma?
الانتشار
It is a malignant tumor of adipose tissue
Incidence:rare in head &neck region
• It is the 2nd most common sot tissue sarcomas after
malignant fibrous histocytoma.
What age group is typically affected by liposarcoma?
Adults (40-60 years).
Where are common sites for liposarcoma in the head and neck?
Neck, cheek, tongue.
What are the signs and symptoms of liposarcoma?
Soft, slowly growing mass with ill-defined margins.
Describe the gross appearance of liposarcoma.
Encapsulated, invasive, and pale gray neoplasm (fish-flesh appearance in well-differentiated only
and yellowish fatty areas in less differentiated).
What are the histological types of liposarcoma?
Well differentiated,
Myxoid,
Round cell,
Pleomorphic,
and Dedifferentiated.نوع اقل تمايز
Describe the histopathological features of well-differentiated liposarcoma.
Resembles benign lipoma but demonstrates scattered lipoblasts with atypical hyperchromatic nuclei. مهمه
What are the histopathological features of Myxoid liposarcoma?
It is the most common type
and shows proliferating lipoblasts within a myxoid stroma that contains a rich capillary network.
Describe the histopathological features of the Round cell type liposarcoma.
It is a more aggressive, less differentiated form with round cells.
What are the histopathological features of the Pleomorphic type liposarcoma?
Shows extreme cellular pleomorphism and bizarre giant cells.خلايه عملاقه غريبه
Describe the histopathological features of the Dedifferentiated type liposarcoma.
A combination of well-differentiated and poorly differentiated areas.
What is the definition of Kaposi’s sarcoma?
It is an unusual vascular tumor.
What are the types of Kaposi’s sarcoma?
Classic,
Endemic (African),
Iatrogenic immunosuppression associated,
and AIDS-related.
Describe the Classic (chronic) type of Kaposi’s sarcoma.
Sex
Site
predominantly males (90%, mostly Italian, Jewish, and Slavic ancestry),
typically presents on the skin of lower extremities with late visceral
Oral lesions are rare and affect the palate and midline of the tongue.
Clinically presents as multiple bluish-purple macules and plaques that grow slowly into painless tumor nodules and bleed easily.
What are the subtypes of the Endemic type Kaposi’s sarcoma in Africa?
Benign nodular, just like classic type but in young age (25-40
Aggressive infiltrative type, locally invasive lesions
Florid form, rapidly progressive &
and a unique lymphadenopathic type.
affect young black African
children presenting with generalized rapidly growing tumors of
lymphnodes
Describe the introgenic immunosuppression associated Kaposi’s sarcoma.
Occurs in immunosuppressed patients after organ transplantation due to decreased cellular immunity and is more aggressive than the classic type.
Describe the AIDS-associated Kaposi’s sarcoma.
Affects young age and involves the head and neck in about half of the cases.
