Καὶ ⸀εἰσελθὼν πάλιν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ δι’ ⸀ἡμερῶν

and when he returned to Capernaum after some days

ἠκούσθη ὅτι ⸂ἐν οἴκῳ⸃ ἐστίν·

it was heard that he was at home

and many people were gathered

so that there was no longer room

μηδὲ τὰ πρὸς τὴν θύραν

καὶ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον.

and he was speaking to them the word

καὶ ἔρχονται ⸂φέροντες πρὸς αὐτὸν παραλυτικὸν⸃

and some came bringing him a paralysed man

αἰρόμενον ὑπὸ τεσσάρων.

καὶ μὴ δυνάμενοι ⸀προσενέγκαι αὐτῷ

And Jesus, seeing their faith,

λέγει τῷ παραλυτικῷ·

said to the paralysed man

Τέκνον, ⸂ἀφίενταί σου⸃ αἱ ⸀ἁμαρτίαι.

“Child, your sins are forgiven you”

ἦσαν δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων ἐκεῖ καθήμενοι

but some of the scribes were sitting there

καὶ διαλογιζόμενοι ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις αὐτῶν·

and reasoning in their hearts

Τί οὗτος οὕτως λαλεῖ; ⸀βλασφημεῖ·

why does this man speak so? He is blaspheming

Question 22

τίς δύναται ἀφιέναι ἁμαρτίας

Who but the one God is able to forgive sins?

Question 23

καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐπιγνοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς

and immediately Jesus, recognising…

τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ ὅτι ⸀οὕτως διαλογίζονται ἐν ἑαυτοῖς

in his spirit that they were reasoning amongst themselves

⸀λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τί ταῦτα διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν;

said to them, "Why do you consider such things in your hearts?"

τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον,

εἰπεῖν τῷ παραλυτικῷ·

to say to the paralytic

⸀Ἀφίενταί σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι, ἢ εἰπεῖν·

your sins are forgiven, or to say

⸀Ἔγειρε καὶ ἆρον ⸂τὸν κράβαττόν σου⸃ καὶ περιπάτει;

rise and take up your bed and walk?

ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι

but so you know that

ἐξουσίαν ἔχει ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου

the son of man has authority

Question 32

⸂ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἀφιέναι ἁμαρτίας⸃

on earth to forgive sins

Question 33

Σοὶ λέγω, ⸀ἔγειρε ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ ὕπαγε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου.

"I say to you, rise and take your bed and go home.

Question 34

καὶ ἠγέρθη ⸂καὶ εὐθὺς⸃ ἄρας τὸν κράβαττον

and he rose and immediately took up his bed

ἐξῆλθεν ⸀ἔμπροσθεν πάντων,

Answer 35

and went away in front of everyone

Question 36

ὥστε ἐξίστασθαι πάντας

so that all were amazed

Question 37

καὶ δοξάζειν τὸν θεὸν λέγοντας ὅτι

and praised God, saying,

Οὕτως οὐδέποτε⸃ εἴδομεν.

we have never seen anything like this§

Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν πάλιν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν·

and he went away again along the sea

Question 40

καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτούς.

and the whole crowd came to him and he was teaching them

καὶ παράγων εἶδεν Λευὶν τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου

and as he was going along he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus

καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ·

sitting in the tax-office and said to him

Ἀκολούθει μοι. καὶ ἀναστὰς ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ.

"follow me". And he got up and followed him.

Καὶ ⸀γίνεται κατακεῖσθαι αὐτὸν

and it happened that he was reclining

ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ,

in his house

καὶ πολλοὶ τελῶναι καὶ ἁμαρτωλοὶ συνανέκειντο

and many tax-collectors and sinners were also sitting at the table

τῷ Ἰησοῦ καὶ τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ,

with Jesus and his disciples

ἦσαν γὰρ πολλοὶ καὶ ⸀ἠκολούθουν αὐτῷ.

for there were many and they followed him

καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς ⸂τῶν Φαρισαίων⸃

and the scribes of the pharisees

⸀ἰδόντες ⸂ὅτι ἐσθίει⸃ μετὰ τῶν ⸂ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ τελωνῶν⸃

seeing that he was eating with the sinners and the tax-collectors

ἔλεγον τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ

said to his disciples

Ὅτι μετὰ τῶν ⸂τελωνῶν καὶ ἁμαρτωλῶν⸃ ⸀ἐσθίει;

why does he eat with tax-collectors and sinners?

καὶ ἀκούσας ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτοῖς

and when Jesus heard he said to them

Οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν οἱ ἰσχύοντες

those who are strong have no need

ἰατροῦ ἀλλ’ οἱ κακῶς ἔχοντες·

for a doctor but those who are sick do (have need)

οὐκ ἦλθον καλέσαι δικαίους ἀλλὰ ⸀ἁμαρτωλούς.

I did not come to call the righteous but the sinners

Καὶ ἦσαν οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ ⸀Φαρισαῖοι νηστεύοντες.

and the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting

καὶ ἔρχονται καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ·

and they came and said to him

Διὰ τί οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ τῶν Φαρισαίων νηστεύουσιν,

why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast

οἱ δὲ σοὶ μαθηταὶ οὐ νηστεύουσιν;

but your disciples don't fast?

Μὴ δύνανται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ νυμφῶνος...νηστεύειν;

but the days will come

ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος,

when the bridegroom is taken from them

καὶ τότε νηστεύσουσιν

and then they will fast

ἐν ⸂ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ⸃.

εἰ δὲ μή, ⸂ῥήξει ὁ οἶνος⸃ τοὺς ἀσκούς,

if he does, the wine will break the wine skins

καὶ ὁ οἶνος ⸂ἀπόλλυται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοί⸃.

and the wine and the skins will be destroyed

ἀλλὰ οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς ⸀καινούς.

but new wine (must be put) into new skins

Καὶ ἐγένετο ⸂αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς σάββασιν παραπορεύεσθαι

and it happened on the sabbath that he was going along

διὰ τῶν σπορίμων,

and gave it also to those who were with him

Τὸ σάββατον διὰ τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐγένετο

the sabbath was made for man

Question 98

⸀καὶ οὐχ ὁ ἄνθρωπος διὰ τὸ σάββατον·

and not man for the Sabbath

Question 99

ὥστε κύριός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ τοῦ σαββάτου.

Therefore the son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath
