a great crowd, hearing what he was doing

ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτόν.

καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ
and he told his disciples

ἵνα πλοιάριον προσκαρτερῇ αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον
to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd

ἵνα μὴ θλίβωσιν αὐτόν·
lest they should crush him

πολλοὺς γὰρ ἐθεράπευσεν,
for he had healed many

ὥστε...ὅσοι εἶχον μάστιγας.
so that all those who had diseases

ἐπιπίπτειν αὐτῷ ἵνα αὐτοῦ ἅψωνται
fell upon him in order to touch him

καὶ τὰ πνεύματα τὰ ἀκάθαρτα,
and the unclean spirits

ὅταν αὐτὸν ⸂ἐθεώρουν,
whenever they saw him

προσέπιπτον⸃ αὐτῷ καὶ ⸀ἔκραζον ⸀λέγοντα
fell before him and cried out saying

ὅτι Σὺ εἶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ.
You are the son of God

καὶ πολλὰ ἐπετίμα αὐτοῖς
and he rebuked them sternly

ἵνα μὴ ⸂αὐτὸν φανερὸν⸃ ⸀ποιήσωσιν.
that they not make him known

Καὶ ἀναβαίνει εἰς τὸ ὄρος
and he went up into the hill

καὶ προσκαλεῖται οὓς ἤθελεν αὐτός,
and summoned those he wanted

καὶ ἀπῆλθον πρὸς αὐτόν.
and they came to him

καὶ ἐποίησεν ⸀δώδεκα,
and he appointed twelve (whom he called apostles)

ἵνα ὦσιν μετ’ αὐτοῦ
so that they might be with him

καὶ ἵνα ἀποστέλλῃ αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν
and that he might send them out to preach

καὶ ἔχειν ⸀ἐξουσίαν ἐκβάλλειν τὰ δαιμόνια·
and to have authority to cast out demons

καὶ ⸂ἐποίησεν τοὺς δώδεκα,
and he appointed twelve

καὶ⸃ ἐπέθηκεν ⸂ὄνομα τῷ Σίμωνι⸃ Πέτρον,
and bestowed the name Peter to Simon

καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Ἰακώβου
and James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James

(καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτοῖς ⸀ὀνόματα Βοανηργές,
and gave them the name "Boanerges"

ὅ ἐστιν Υἱοὶ Βροντῆς),

Καὶ ⸀ἔρχεται εἰς οἶκον·
and he went home

καὶ συνέρχεται πάλιν ⸀ὁ ὄχλος,
and the crowd gathered again

ὥστε μὴ δύνασθαι αὐτοὺς ⸀μηδὲ ἄρτον φαγεῖν.
that they could not even eat their bread

καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ παρ’ αὐτοῦ
and, when those with him heard,
60
ἐξῆλθον κρατῆσαι αὐτόν,
they went out to take hold of him
61
ἔλεγον γὰρ ὅτι ἐξέστη.
because people were saying that he was beside himself

καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς οἱ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων καταβάντες
and the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem

ἔλεγον ὅτι Βεελζεβοὺλ ἔχει
| καὶ ὅτι
said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub" (and that)

ἐν τῷ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια.
"He drives out the demons by the prince of demons

καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς·
and he summoned them and spoke to them in parables

Πῶς δύναται Σατανᾶς Σατανᾶν ἐκβάλλειν;
"How can Satan cast out Satan?
67
καὶ ἐὰν βασιλεία ἐφ’ ἑαυτὴν μερισθῇ,
and if a kingdom is divided against itself
68
οὐ δύναται σταθῆναι ἡ βασιλεία ἐκείνη·
that kingdom is not able too stand
69
καὶ ἐὰν οἰκία ἐφ’ ἑαυτὴν μερισθῇ,
and if a house be similarly divided (divided against itself)
70
οὐ ⸀δυνήσεται ⸂ἡ οἰκία ἐκείνη σταθῆναι⸃·
then that house will not be able to stand
71
καὶ εἰ ὁ Σατανᾶς ἀνέστη ἐφ’ ἑαυτὸν
and if Satan rises up against himself
72
καὶ ⸀ἐμερίσθη,
and is divided
73
οὐ δύναται ⸀στῆναι
then he is not able to stand
74
ἀλλὰ τέλος ἔχει.
but has an end

⸂ἀλλ’ οὐδεὶς δύναται⸃ ⸂εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ εἰσελθὼν
but no one is able to go into a strong man's house
76
τὰ σκεύη⸃ αὐτοῦ διαρπάσαι
and plunder his property
77
ἐὰν μὴ πρῶτον τὸν ἰσχυρὸν δήσῃ,
unless he first ties the strong man up
78
καὶ τότε τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ ⸀διαρπάσει.
and then he can plunder his house
79
Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πάντα... , τὰ ἁμαρτήματα⸃
amen I say to you that all sins
80
ἀφεθήσεται ⸂τοῖς υἱοῖς τῶν ἀνθρώπων,
will be forgiven the sons of men
81
καὶ ⸂αἱ βλασφημίαι ὅσα ἐὰν⸃ βλασφημήσωσιν·
and whatever blasphemies they utter
82
ὃς δ’ ἂν βλασφημήσῃ
but should anyone blaspheme
83
εἰς τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον,
against the Holy Spirit
84
οὐκ ἔχει ἄφεσιν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα,
will never have forgiveness
85
ἀλλὰ ἔνοχός ἐστιν αἰωνίου ⸀ἁμαρτήματος.
but is guilty of an eternal sin
86
ὅτι ἔλεγον· Πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον ἔχει.
because they said "he has an unclean spirit"
87
⸂Καὶ ἔρχονται⸃ ⸂ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ⸃
and his mother and brothers came
88
καὶ ἔξω ⸀στήκοντες
and, standing outside
89
ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ⸀καλοῦντες αὐτόν.
sent him a message, calling him
90
καὶ ἐκάθητο ⸂περὶ αὐτὸν ὄχλος⸃, ⸂καὶ λέγουσιν⸃ αὐτῷ·
and the crowd sat around him and said to him
91
Ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί ⸀σου
look your mother and your brothers
92
ἔξω ζητοῦσίν σε.
are seeking you outside
93
καὶ ⸂ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτοῖς λέγει⸃·
and in reply Jesus said to them
94
Τίς ἐστιν ἡ μήτηρ μου ⸀ἢ οἱ ἀδελφοί ⸀μου;
who is my mother or my brothers?
95
καὶ περιβλεψάμενος ⸂τοὺς περὶ
and he looked about him at them
96
αὐτὸν κύκλῳ⸃ καθημένους λέγει·
sitting around him in a circle and said
97
Ἴδε ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου·
behold, my mother and my brothers
98
ὃς ⸀γὰρ ἂν ποιήσῃ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ,
for whoever does the will of God
99
οὗτος ἀδελφός μου καὶ ⸀ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν.
this man is my brother and my sister and my mother
