What is the opening sentence and analysis of
“all of them are mummified with age…all of them are tiny.”
Opening sentence:
A physical appearance is viewed by Orwell of the women, he states, “quote”
Analysis:
The imagery of ‘mummified’ indicates that the women were old and frail with wrinkly skin. It is also highlights that they look dehydrated, which can be linked to the poverty they suffer from as they may not have access to a good amount of water. The word choice of ‘tiny’ suggests that they are mainly just skin and bones. This makes us feel an extreme amount of pity got the women due to them fighting through these unnatural conditions.
What is the opening sentence and analysis of
“she answered with a shrill wail, almost a scream.”
Opening sentence:
Orwell then describes the reactions of the women by saying “quote”.
Analysis:
This suggests that the women reacted in a startled manner. She has this sort of reaction as she will always figure that she is unseen by everyone. This builds on the pit felt by us as the women are scared by the slightest thing.
What is the opening sentence and analysis of
“beast of burden”
Opening sentence:
Orwell then describes how the women are seen when they say “quote”.
Analysis:
This indicates that the omen are easily referred to as creatures and are just women with low status. This is extremely dehumanising to the women since they are being referred to as ‘beasts’. This appals us as such terms as ‘beast’ are used for a dangerous, ugly monster, and these terms are used to describe the women. This disappoints the reader due to the amount of disrespect shown.
What is the evaluation?
The society in which women have suffered was significantly cruel and made the reader have no sense of hope for the future of society.
