In 1515 While reading Roman 1:17 Martin Luther had an ephiany that the Bible was saying salvation is based on faith only which eliminated both the Church’s practice of indulgences which is where people would pay them to get themselves or a loved one out of hell for a time, On October 31st 1517 Martin Luther posted 95 theses against the church on a church at the University of Wittenberg they were spread widely by the pritinging press and Church gave him op to debate theses but he denied the authroity of the pope and the church and so he was declared a heretic and excommunicated, he then went on trial and was sentenced to death but a friend and mentor of his Fredrick the wise kidnapped him and freed him but he had to hide at Wartburg
