What was Maslows about?
A
believed all people have needs to be satisfied, and they will work towards satisfying those needs. A need is what a person requires. Once a particular need is satisfied it is no longer a motivator.

5 stages of Maslow (bottom to top)
A
Physiological needs (food, water, shelter)
Safety needs (clothing, shelter)
Social needs (friends, family)
Esteem needs (promoted, added status)
Self actualisation needs (reach full potential)

Strengths of Maslows Hierarchy?
A
-management to develop understanding of individual needs
- allows management to be aware that employees will be at different stages of development
- theory is easier to understand.

Disadvantages of Maslow’s?
A
- not supported by evidence, and may not apply to all individuals
- one motivation strategy should be able to satisfy several at the same time.
- time consuming to identify which stage the employee is at.
