What is mass trauma?
A traumatic event or series of events affecting a large number of individuals simultaneously
What are the main types of mass trauma events?
Natural Disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes)
Man-Made Incidents (war, industrial accidents)
Pandemics
Deliberate Harm Events (mass shootings, terrorism)
What are the three classifications of mass trauma by onset and duration?
- Sudden Incidents (unexpected events like terrorist attacks)
- ‘Rising Tide’ Incidents (gradually developing threats like pandemics)
- Long-Term/Recurrent Threats (chronic exposure without endpoint
What percentage of survivors may develop mental disorders?
