The painting is very small, same size as a A4 piece of paper. TO achieve the detail seen in the deer’s fur and leaves etc, Kahlo has used a tiny brush and very controlled brush strokes

Kahlo has chosen to paint onto Masonite, a type of hardboard. This has helped her as it is self supporting and it means she can lie in bed and work more easily

I can see a variety of different paint brushes used in this piece, she has used the tiniest brush with great control for the detail in the face. In the sky, she has created fluffy cloud effects by using a slightly larger brush and circular motions
