(11 cards)
What is meiosis?
A type of nuclear division that produces genetically different cells.
What type of cells are produced?
Gametes.
How many divisions are there in meiosis?
Two.
How many replications of DNA are there?
One.
What is the name for a cell with half the DNA?
Haploid.
How many cells are produced from meiosis?
Four.
When will the full number of chromosomes be restored?
During fertilisation.
What are the two divisions called?
Meiosis I and meiosis II.
What happens in late interphase for meiosis?
DNA replication, build up of ATP, protein synthesis and replication of organelles.
What happens in meiosis I?
Separation of homologous pair of chromosomes.
What happens in meiosis II?
Separation of chromatids of each chromosome.
