Memory Flashcards
How can a GMP (generalised motor programme) be adapted?
-Sequence of muscle contractions
-Force of muscle contractions
-Timing (how long between each sequence of contraction)
Recall schema
Occurs before movement when info is recalled from LTM and involves:
Initial conditions- info of immediate situation performer is in.
Response specification- Desired responses
Recognition schema
Happens either during or after movement/skill and involves:
Sensory consequence- feedback from knowledge of performance (kinaesthetic feel)
Movement outcomes- feedback from knowledge of results (how successful outcome was of skill)
Negative of schema
Doesn’t provide explanation of how memory stores can be used if an athlete has never performed the skill (or similar) before.
What does Hicks law suggest?
The more choices a person has to choose from then the longer it takes to process leading to increased reaction time.
Reaction time
Time from stimulus to the initiation of the response.
Movement time
Time from initiation of response to the completion of the movement.
Response time
Time from the stimulus to the completion of the movement.
What is PRP (psychological refractory period)?
The time delay that occurs in responding to the 2nd of the 2 stimuli because the response to the first stimulus is still being processed.
How can we improve response time?
-Train specific S-R bond
-Practise regularly
-Improve selective attention
-Mental rehearsal
-Complete drills
