Who proposed the working memory model (WMM)?

Baddeley and Hitch (1974).

Why was the WMM proposed?
A
The WMM was proposed as a way of explaining some of the research findings that could not be accounted for by the multi-store model (MSM), such as dual-task studies.

A limited capacity store for retaining information for a brief period of time while performing operations on that information.
