Q

What is FSH?

A

Follicle Stimulating Hormone from
the pituitary gland that causes the egg to mature
Causes the ovaries to produce OESTROGEN which thickens uterus linings and stops production of FSH so no eggs no longer mature
Pituitary gland then produces LH (Luteinising Hormone) which causes the egg to release which travels to the uterus by the oviduct
Progesterone is secreted by the ovaries and maintains uterus linings

How does IVF work

A

  • Viable embryos inserted back into women’s uterus

Success rate is low, and very expensive procedure
Can potentially cause multiple embryos to develop
