- egg develops and is released from the ovary on day 14 = ovulation

- uterus wall is mantiained until day 28
- if egg is not fertlised cycle will start again

what is the FSH and where is it produced
- pituitary gland
- causes egg to mature in ovaries = in structure called follicle
- stimulates ovaries to produce oestrogen

what does oestrogen do
- causes uterus lining to grow
- stimulates release of LH & inhibits FSH
what hormone is released in stage 3 by the pituitary galnd

what does LH do
stimulates release of egg on day 14 = ovulation
what hormone is released in stage 4 in the ovaries by remains of follicle
progesterone
what does progesterone do
- maintains the lining of the uterus
- when levels of progesterone fall = lining breaks down
- inhibits release of LH & FSH
