Metals Flashcards

(10 cards)

1
Q

What isa ferrous metal ?

A

Contain iron
Generally tend to corrode (rust) so need some form of protection against corrosion
Almost all metals are magnetic

3
Q

Properties and uses of mild steel ?

A

Properties
The most common ferrous metal and the softest one
Quite cheap and strong metal so it is used frequently in tech design
Rusts easily and cannot be hardened or tempered
Uses
Used for nuts and bolts, screws, stool legs, washing machines and car bodies
