What is minority influence?
Minority group of people persuading others to align themselves with their beliefs, attitudes.
What does minority influence lead to?
Internalisation, changing private and public attitudes or opinions.
What was Moscovici’s study procedure?
Group of 6 to view 36 coloured slides and asked to identify if blue or green, 2 confederates who consistently said slides were green 2/3rds of trial.
What were Moscovici’s findings?
8.32% gave same answer as minority (wrong answers), however, when presented with an inconsistent minority this lowered to 1.25%, a control group was also made showing wrong answers 0.25%.
What were the 3 factors to help minority influence?
Consistency, flexibility, commitment.
Explain the 2 types of consistency.
Synchronic consistency refers to the minority all saying the same thing, diachronic consistency refers to the group saying the same thing for a long time.
What factor in minority influence would risky/extreme behaviour or activities be?
Commitment, referring to the augmentation principle.
