Mitosis Stages Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Interphase
A
Stage between nuclear divisions
Chromosomes not visible
As cell leaves interphase, chromatin threads become shorter, thicker & visible
2
Q
Prophase
A
Chromatin threads condense
Visible as double strands, contains 2 chromatids held together at centromere
Nuclear membrane breaks down
3
Q
Metaphase
A
Chromosomes move to centre of cell & line up along equator
4
Q
Anaphase
A
Spindle fibres attach to chromatids, help pull them apart
Chromatids separate at centromere, move to opposite poles of spindle
5
Q
Telophase
A
Chromosomes de-condense
Chromatin unwinds, becomes less visible
Nucleoli reform
Spindle disassembles
