Counselling/SE

A
  • this medication may make you drowsy or dizzy; if affected do not drive or operate machinery
  • if you experience SOB, difficulty breathing (anaphylactic-type rxns) or chest pain or tightness, seek medical advice
  • this medication is most effective if taken when the headache is beginning to develop, and not earlier (e.g. during aura) or later (when headache more severe)
  • if there is no improvement with the first dose, do not repeat
  • dose may be repeated after at least 2 hours (4 hours for naratriptan) if migraine recurs

Migraine counselling:

  • keep a diary recording the times migraines occur, drugs and dosages used, response to treatment and what may = - - have triggered attack
  • avoid identified triggers (e.g. stress, tension, anxiety, caffeine, alcohol, smoking, bright or flickering lights)
  • practice relaxation exercises
  • exercise regularly and eat a healthy, regular diet

SE:

  • dependence may occur when overused resulting in recurrent and/or rebound headaches and withdrawal syndrome
  • sensations of heat, tingling, pain, heaviness or tightness in any part of the body including chest and throat
  • flushing
  • dizziness, drowsiness
  • transient BP
