Nerve Injuries Flashcards
(8 cards)
The most common type of nerve injury in obstetrics
Neuropraxial
To be compressed, heal spontaneously
Recall
Most common nerve injury in gynecology
Femoral nerve 11%
Recall
Most common nerve injury in obstetrics
Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh
When femoral nerve could be injured
In hysterectomy, the blades of long retractors can crush psoas muscles that contains FN
In lithotomy posiiton+ exaggerated lateral rotation and abduction, the nerve will be stretched against inguinal ligament
Failure to climb stairs is what nerve injury
Femoral nerve,
as it supplies quadriceps muscle, the flexes the extended muscle, also responsible for knee jerk.
So absent knee jerk
Longblade retractor
Innability to climb stairs
Absent knee jerk
Absent Anterior and medial aspect of thigh
Femoral nerve injury
What could injure the obturator nerve
Its also in the Psoas muscle, so it could be injured by longblade retractor
difference between ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric nerve injury
Both: d.t. wide CS incision to lateral borders of rectus muscle
Sensory loss:
Ilioninguinal: below SP
Iliohypogastric: above SP
