Nervous System Flashcards
Central Nervous System
Brain and Spinal Cord
Peripheral Nervous System
Communication line between CNS and rest of body
Afferent sensory neurons
Visceral afferents
Supply info originating from central body cavity specifically relating to organs.
Afferent sensory neurons
Somatic afferents
Supply info from more external superficial areas; skin, muscle, joints
Efferent sensory neurons
Autonomic NS
Involuntary control CNS has over body organs and structure. Example, gastrinointestinal tract digestion
Efferent sensory neurons
Somatic or voluntary NS
Conscious control over skeletal muscle.
Kick a ball, run on treadmill
Sympathetic
Nerves involved in preparing body for energy expenditure , stress or emergency situations
Parasympathetic
Nerves involved in maintaining body function at rest
