Note Flashcards
It is an exchange of information between two people.
Individual approach
It could influence the behavior, attitudes and opinions of others.
strengths of individual approach
It helps to have immediate feedback and it allows to easily exchange the information
and the skills.
strengths of individual approach
It allows in coordinating effectively and efficiently in forging or maintain a social
bond.
strengths of individual approach
It allows to observe the information in real time and to make more informed
decisions.
strengths of individual approach
.
It allows the listener to interact with the speaker in a back-and-forth discussion.
strengths of individual approach
The counsellor mostly will be the only person to give the outcomes of the solutions.
It is consuming time.
weaknesses of individual approach:
It costs more money depending on the counsellor.
It requires extensive training and a good skill of interpersonal communication.
weaknesses of individual approach:
It is the best effective way to work and communicate information and equal discussion between several individuals, up to 6 to 12 people, who have equal opportunities for discussion between them and stimulate discussion and exchange of views
Group approach
Listening to and respecting others’ ideas.
- Thinking about one problem in a variety of ways.
Strengths of group approach
Getting to a deeper level understanding through having to explain a perspective and discuss it with people with different perspectives.
Dividing up tasks and delegating responsibilities.
Strengths of group approach
Sharing knowledge and abilities to get a better hold on a problem than they could
individually. - Persuade and motivate the patient to change his behavior more effectively. - - Holding group members accountable—and being held accountable back.
Strengths of group approach
Diffusion of Responsibility
One possible disadvantage of group decision making is that it can create a diffusion of responsibility that results in a lack of accountability for outcomes. In a sense, if everyone is responsible for a decision, then no one is. Moreover, group decisions can make it easier for members to deny personal responsibility and blame others for bad decisions.
Weaknessesof group approach
Lower Efficiency
Group decisions can also be less efficient than those made by an individual. Group decisions can take additional time because there is the requirement of participation, discussion, and coordination among group members. Without good facilitation and structure, meetings can get bogged down in trivial details that may matter a lot to one person but not to the others.
Weaknessesof group approach
Formal talk on a serious subject given to a group of people, it’s the method that involves primarily an oral presentation In front of audience of learners, accompanied by some sort of visual aid, such as a slideshow, a word document, an image, a film…etc.
Lectures
can be presented to large audience.
can provide large information.
allow the instructor to control maximum control of the learning experience.
is a simple, quick & traditional way to present your subject.
Strengths of lectures
The learners(patients) are often passive, because there is no mechanism to ensure that they are intellectually engaged with the material.
Information tend to be forgotten quickly.
require effective speakers because this method makes the learners a passive
listener.
emphasize learning by listening, that is difficult for learners(patients) who
have other learning styles.
Weaknesses of lectures :
It is a mixture of theoretical and practical teaching and depends on application and repetition to facilitate the communication of information through the use of visual elements so that you can understand the theories It also helps to develop skills. . .i.e a combination of theoretical teaching and practical work.
Demonstrations
This strategy improves the understanding of complex skills and principles.
Knowledge becomes permanent because this method requires different human senses.
The psychomotor objective is easily achieved through this method
Patients are motivated to study and gain necessary skills
No time is wasted because patients see the process live and understand how to apply theoretical knowledge practically.
Strengths of demonstration
- Often lack the equipment necessary for making the ‘demonstrative’ models. -This method requires a significant effort from the Health Educator.
- The method is limited to particular teaching (enabling) situations only.
Weaknesses of demonstration
where around 6 to 12 people meet to discuss health problem in detail. They exchange of information, views, opinions about health issue. duration of discussion (as short as possible). It is a tow-way teaching method. People learn by exchanging their views and experiences, the group comprise 6-12 people, and therefore the group leader is that the one who start the topic, helps within the discussion, prevents side-conversations, encourages everyone to participate and sums up the discussion within the end.
group discussion
- group discussion can produce better quality data
- group discussion allows new and valuable issue to emerge
- group discussion can be done more quickly and effective more than a series of in-depth interviews
- stimulate thinking and discussion thus generate ideas and breadth of discussion
- The health educator can get information from non- verbal responses (facial
expression, body language) to the health issue
Strengths of group discussion
- The patient may not express their honest and personal problem about topic at hand
- Time can be lost on issues irrelevant to the topic if a discussion digresses from the
original topic. - Susceptibility to bias, because group and individual
opinions can be swayed by dominant participants or by
the moderator.
Weakness of group discussion
It is an explanatory communication method and a state in which ideas and opinions are discussed in a planned manner. A group of qualified people consisting of 4 to 8 people, usually experts in the discussion topic, are invited who present their ideas spontaneously, discuss the agreed topic and allow the audience to ask and research questions.
Panels usually include a mediator who guides the discussion and sometimes raises questions from the audience, with the aim of being useful.
