NPC + NVD Notes Flashcards
Describe what each monocular has in them
Objective lens
Photocathode
Micro channel plate
Phospher screen
Fibre optic inverter
When does the low battery level indicator flash?
How much time remains?
2volts DC
Atleast 1 hour
How should goggles be focused?
On a straight edge 30 - 60m away
List common faults to look for through the image intensifier tubes
- shading
- edge glow
- bright spots
- emission points
- flickering
- black spots
- fixed pattern noise
- chicken wire
- image disparity
- veiling glare
- Image distortion
What quals are required to conduct an NVFR op?
a night VFR rating, or
an instrument rating
State the night recency requirements for night VFR rating?
Within previous 6mths
1 take off and landing in same cat of aircraft, or
NPC
Within 90days (to carry passengers)
3 takeoff and ldgs at night in same cat of aircraft
State the proficienecy requirements to be auth’d to conduct NFVR ops?
Auth’d to conduct a NVFR op if have completed a night VFR flight review within previous 24 mths.
What equipment does the aircraft require for NVFR flight ops?
External lights
- 1 x landi g light
- 2 x landing lights ( for charter with pax)
- nav and anti cols
Internal
- instrument lights
- 2 x power sources
Emergency lights
- 1 x torch per crew member
Instruments
- ASI, ALT, Comp, VSI, OAT, AI, HSI, turn and slip, stby AI
Nav aids
- Atleast 1 of VOR or GNSS
Climb to, or descent from LSALT should only be made…
with aerodrome in sight.
Requirement on track within 5nm and clear of terrain on climb to LSALT.
NVFR alt minima
- cloud more than SCT below 1500ft
- forecast or % of vis less than 8000m
- TS or Sev turbforecast
Descent below LSALT does not commence until…
within 3nm and aerodrome in sight
When does night start and finish?
Between end of evening civil twilight to beginning of morning civil twilight.
What is a limitation regarding pax carrying as PIC of a NVFR flight )
Within previous 90 days, At least 3 takeoffs and 3 landings at night
(with 500ft min climb)
State the privileges and limitations of a NVFR rating
Privileges allow holder to fly as PIC at night in VMC
must not exercise privileges unless recency is fulfilled.
Does a HLS - NVIS require a windsock or lighting?
No
When can an NVFR or IFR operate below LSALT?
- flight is a NVIS op
- an operational need exists
- at least 2 NVIS crew members
State the night recency requirments for NVIS operations:
Flight time &
NVIS Proficiency cx
Flight time = 3hrs , Inc 3 take off’s, ccts and ldgs in last 6 mths (or Proficiency cx in last 6 mths)
NVIS cx = 12 monthly (within 90days of exp)
What due date can be applied to an NVIS Proficiency check?
Recency is deemed to expire at end of the due month.
What are the standard transponder codes for NVFR?
CTA = 3000
OCTA = 1200
What height above obs is required for NVFR?
Must plan Atleast 1000ft abv highest obstacle with 10nm of track
When can your height abv obstacles reduce below 1000ft?
State the 3 exemptions
1 - during takeoff or landing
2 - destination AD insight and within 3nm
3 - radar vectors
FEW + SCT cloud =
BKN for alt minima planning
Describe a Cct rejoin at night
Within 3nm and AD is sight, descend to overfly at 1500ft
Check windsock
Descend on dead side
Join x wind or upwind (cannot descend on downwind)
Does the dest AD have suitable lighting? What conditions need to be met to avoid having to nominate an alt.
1 - portable lighting with RP
2 - elec w/out stby pwr, portable + RP
3 - PAL w STBY pwr, need RP
4 - elec w STBY power
