Q

If someone asked you how to lose weight safely, what three tips would you give them?

A

The three tips I would give someone to lose weight safely are to eat smaller portions in meals, drink lots of water, and to make sure to include vigorous intensity in workouts.

Q

The electron transport chain captures energy as ATP in the form of ___.

A

High-energy bonds

17
Q

The ___ is the location in the cell where the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl CoA, fatty acid oxidation, the TCA Cycle, and the electron transport chain reactions take place.

18
Q

Chemical reactions that breakdown molecules and release energy are considered to be ___.

19
Q

List and describe three health concerns (related to nutrition) that you are likely to see in your future pts.

A

1) malnutrition - not getting all the nutrients that you need
2) underweight - not having enough fat stored to help recover when needed
3) overweight - which could lead to various other health risks like heart attack and stroke.

20
Q

___ is dotted with ribosomes, which are the site of protein synthesis.

A

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

21
Q

___ are protein catalysts that facilitate chemical reactions.

22
Q

Healthy adults who are working on weight maintenance should monitor their weight ___.

23
Q

Acetyl CoA enters the ___, which breaks down the acetyl CoA into carbon dioxide and hydrogen atoms.

24
Q

Give an example of a psychological need to eat and an example of actual hunger.

A

A psychological need to eat is like seeing an ad for a restaurant and your mind tells you that it’s time to eat, or looking at the clock and feeling the need to eat because it’s a “typical meal time.” An actual hunger is like when you are focused on studying or working, and your stomach growls and you get a headache because you need food.

25
Upper body fat can be visualized as the ___ body shape and is linked to risk of chronic disease.
Apple
26
___ cells are the most metabolically active.
Liver
27
As a future healthcare professional, what do you believe is the best solution to the obesity epidemic?
I truly believe that the best solution to the obesity epidemic is simply to make sure that everyone works out and watches their portion control. Portion control makes all the difference in a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight, and that person can still enjoy some of the "junk" foods in moderation (because that can be good for mental health every once in a while). And exercising consistently also helps one to practice self-discipline, which will help them stay disciplined in many areas including their diet.
28
Describe at least two trends that you observed in the CDC obesity maps.
The first thing that I notice is that the South majorly leads the way in the obesity trends. The second thing that I notice is that Colorado seemed to be one of the slowest states to follow the obesity trends.
29
In the TCA Cycle, when compounds lose a carbon, what two things are carried to the electron transport chain.
Hydrogens and electrons
30
___ is a 2-carbon structure with a coenzyme attached that cannot be used to make glucose.
Acetyl CoA
31
In the anaerobic pathway, pyruvate accepts the hydrogens instead of the electron transport chain, becoming ___, associated with burning and fatigue in the muscle tissue.
Lactic Acid
32
The final pathway in energy metabolism is the ___.
Electron Transport Chain
33
What is the name of Organ Annie's heart?
Hardy
34
In this weight loss surgery, about 70-85% of the stomach is removed and the remaining portions are stapled together to create sleeve.
Gastric Sleeve
35
In the electron transport chain, hydrogen ions rush back into the inner compartment, and energy is produced to make ___.
ATP
36
The TCA Cycle is a circular path that requires ___ in the first step and produces this same compound in the last step.
Oxaloacetate
37
___ is a 30carbon structure with a key role in energy metabolism that can be used to make glucose.
Pyruvate
