Organelles Flashcards
(15 cards)
What organelle contains the DNA of the cell?
Nucleus
Where are the ribosomes made?
Nucleolus
What is the rough ER (endoplasmic reticulum)?
a highly folded membrane that is the sight of protein synthesis (transports and ‘packages’ proteins)
What is the function of the Golgi apparatus?
a highly folded membrane that receives, modifies and sends out molecules
What is the smooth ER (endoplasmic reticulum)?
highly folded membrane where lipids are synthesised and transported
Where does cell respiration occur?
The mitochondrion (think: Mandalorian)
What organelle consists of lipids and policies what enters and exits the cell?
The cell membrane
What is the function of the lysosomes?
they contain digestive enzymes and breaks down/recycles waste
Where does photosynthesis occur? (in plant cells)
chloroplast
What does the cell wall provide for the cell? (in plant cells)
protection and structure
Where are proteins made?
Ribosomes (rRNA)
Which organelle stores materials and is full of water?
the vacuole
What is an example of an integral protein?
Channel protein/carrier protein
What are integral proteins?
Proteins that are embedded in the phospholipid bi-layer
What is a glycoprotein?
Essentially, just a chain of sugars attached to any kind of protein (peripheral, integral or lipid bound) that is used for cells to recognise other cells
