What are the properties of a solid ?
- Regular arrangment
- Low particle energy
- High forces to keep fixed position
What are the properties of a liquid ?
-Weaker forces of attraction
- Particles are close together
- Particles can move past eachother
- Form irregular arrangments
What are the propeties of a gas ?
- Almost no forces of attraction
- Particles have a lot of energy
- They are free & move in random directions
What does density depend on ?
- The spacing of the atoms - how much space they take up
How do you work out the density of an irregular object ?
- weigh object
- Work out volume - L x W x H
- D= M/V
How do you work out the volume of an irregular object ?
- Weigh it
- Place object in eureka beaker
- Amount of water displaced = volume of object
- D = M/V
What impact does area have on pressure ?
Small area =high pressure
Large area = Lower pressure
What is pressure ?
Pressure is exerted whenever a force is applied over an area
Pressure = Force / Area
What is specific heat capacity ?
The amount of energy require to increase the temp of a 1kg object by 1 degrees c
What is specific latent heat ?
The energy required to change 1kg of a substance from one state to another
