What are magnetic materials ?
Iron, nickel, cobalt & steel
What kind of force is magnetism ?
Non-contact force
What happens when a mangnet is demagnetised ?
The domains are all facing different ways
What happens when a mangnet is magnetised ?
All of the domains are facing the same way
What is a magnetic field ?
The area around a magnet where a magnetic material will experience a force
What is a gravitational field ?
The area around a mass where another mass will experience a force
What is an electric field ?
The area around a charge where a charge will experience a force
What is produced around a wire ?
When a current flows in any wire a magnetic field is produced
What are the properties of an electromagnet ?
- It is hard to get stuff off
- It can’t be made stronger easily
- It can lose it magnetism
What does the right thumb show ?
The thumb goes in the direction of the electric current, the fingers show the magnetic field
What does each finger represent in Fleming’s left hand rule ?
1st finger shows field
2nd finger shows current
3rd finger shows force
