Define acute form (3)

Sudden onset
May be life threatening
Common in dogs

Define chronic form (3)

May be asymptomatic
May be result of repeated acute pancreatitis
More common in cats

Pathophysiology

Inflammation of pancreas due to auto-digestion
Pancreatic enzymes released into circ.
Causes severe systemic complications
- pancreatic abscesses and autolysis
- ARF
- multiple organ dysfunction

Idiopathic

Obesity
High fat diet
Severe blunt trauma
Toxin ingestion
Bile duct obstruction

Acute clinical signs (6)

Severe abdominal pain and distension
Pyrexia
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Dehydration
