what is the pbs

A

the PBS subsidises the cost of many prescription medications listed on the PBS list and is available to all Australians

the aim was to provide essential medicines to people who need them, regardless of their ability to pay - now is subsidised and consumers must make a patient co-payment

currently more than 5000 brands of prescription medicine are covered by the PBS - includes brands of the same medicine
