stages of play for infant, toddler, preschool, and school age
infant = SOLITARY PLAY
toddler (1-3 yrs old) = PARALLEL PLAY - they play next to each other and are happy with each others presence but they do not directly play in the presence of each other
Pre-schooler (3-6yrs old) = ASSOCIATIVE PLAY - engage in the same type of act but unorganized without specific goals and rules
School age (6-12) = COOPERATIVE PLAY - play with specific goal and with rigid set of rules
hypospadia
congenital defect in which the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis
typically corrected around age 6-12 months by surgically redirecting the urethra to the penis tip
wilms tumor aka
nephroblastoma ,, kidney tumor that usually occurs in children less than 5
osteogenesis imperfecta
aka as brittle bone disease
- a rare genetic condition resulting in fragile bone and frequent fractures. the nurse should use careful handling to minimize additional fracture and molding of soft bones
