pelvis/perineum Flashcards
(23 cards)
what are the boundaries of the femoral triangle?
inguinal ligament, sartorius muscle (lateral), adductor longus muscle (medial)
what is the inguinal ligament?
aponeurotic edge of the external oblique muscle. Runs from the ASIS to the pubic tubercle
define the true and false pelvis
true pelvis- demarcated by pelvic brim, sacrum and coccyx, and contains the pelvic viscera
False pelvis- lower portion of the abdomen which lies between the flared iliac crests
Where exactly is the perineum?
below the pelvic muscle floor and contains the external genitalia
what are the 3 bones that make up the pelvic bones?
ilium
ischium
pubis
what is the shape of the pelvic outlet in a female and male respectively?
female- oval shaped
male-heart shaped
what two muscles form the pelvic diaphragm or the pelvic floor?
levator ani and coccygeus
what are the 3 muscles that constitute levator ani?
- iliococcygeous
- pubococcygeus
- puborectalis
when does the rectum become the anal canal?
at the anorectal fissure as the rectum passes through the pelvic diaphragm
what ligaments demarcate the greater sciatic foreman and the lesser sciatic foramen?
sacrotuberous ligament and sacrospinous ligament
what kind of joint is the sacroiliac joint?
plane synovial
what two pelvic muscles arise from the greater trochanter of the femur?
obturator internus
piriformis
describe the broad ligament
double sheet of peritoneum in female pelvis that envelopes ovaries, uterine tubes and uterus
what is the round ligament?
round ligament descends into the deep inguinal ring and ends in the labia majora of the perineum. originals off the ovarian ligament (gubanaculum)
what demarcates the cervix?
internal os
external os
describe the structure of the testes
- encased in thick capsule known as tunica albuginea
- divided into lobules
- each lobule contains seminiferous tubules
- seminiferous tubules give rise spermatozoa
- sperm mature and are stored in the epididymis
what is the other name for the cardinal ligament in the female?
the transverse cervical ligaments that supports the uterus from posteriorly
what is the douglas of pouch
rectouterine pouch in females. Defined by the peritoneum.
which- internal or external iliac artery leads to the vasculature of the pelvis?
internal
what are the two triangles of the perineum?
urogenital triangle
anal triangle
-demarcated by an imaginary line between ischial tuberosities
how can the urogenital triangle of the perineum be further divided into two pouches?
the superficial pouch
the deep pouch
describe the fascia in the perineum of the male
Deep Buck’s fascia anteriorly around penis
Superficial Darto fascia anterior around penis and extending around the testes/scrotum
Perineal Colle’s fascia
what part of the penis directly lines the urethra?
corpus spongiosum
