Q

What is the difference between divided and alternating attention?

A

Decided attention is when attention is divided between multiple tasks. Rather than shifting their attention people attend to these stimuli at the same time and Alternating attention is the ability to change the focus of your attention and switch between different tasks (one task doesn’t limit the performance of the other).

Q

What is habitual attention? Provide an example.

A

Habitual attention refers to the type of attention that becomes automatic over time due to repeated exposure or familiarity. If you walk the same route to school every day, you might automatically notice if something unusual appears, like a new sign or roadblock — even though you’re not actively looking for it. Your brain is used to the usual sights, so any change stands out, even without focused attention.
