what are the two layers of the peritoneum?
parietal and visceral peritoneum
what does the parietal peritoneum surround?
lines internal surface of abdominopelvic cavity
what does the visceral peritoneum surround?
lines viscera
what is the location of the peritoneum?
within the abdominopelvic cavity
where does the parietal peritoneum become the visceral peritoneum
on the surface of viscera
what are some intraperitoneal structures?
Stomach, spleen, liver, transverse colon, sigmoid colon, jejunum, ileum, appendix
What are some retroperitoneal structures?
Esophagus, parts of the duodenum, ascending and descending colon, proximal rectum, pancreas (except tail), abdominal aorta, IVC
What are some sub peritoneal structures?
Distal rectum
Describe intraperitoneal structures
are almost completely covered by visceral peritoneum, mobile structures, are anchored by the mesentery, invaginated
Describe retroperitoneal structures
located externally to the parietal peritoneum, usually partially covered by parietal peritoneum on anterior surface, posterior to peritoneal cavity
