Phtosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

What happen during photosynthesis?

A

Light energy is absorbed by a green substance called chlorophyll, which is found in chloroplasts in some plant cells and algae
This energy is used by converting CO2 (from the air) and water (from the soil) into sugar (glucos)
Oxygen is released as a by-product

Q

What limits the rate of photosynthesis?

A

Shortage of light
Low temperature
Shortage of CO2
Light temperature and the availability of carbon dioxide interact and in practice any one of them may be the fact that limits photosynthesis for respiration

Q

What may happen to the glucose produced in photosynthesis?

A

It may be converted into soluble starch for storage. Plant cells use some of the glucose produced during photosynthesis for respiration
