Physics Flashcards
(40 cards)
What is motion?
Change in position over time
What is velocity?
Speed with direction
What is acceleration?
Change in velocity over time
What is Newton’s First Law?
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by a force
What is Newton’s Second Law?
Force equals mass times acceleration (F = ma)
What is Newton’s Third Law?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is gravity?
The force of attraction between objects with mass
What is weight?
The force of gravity on an object
What is mass?
The amount of matter in an object
What is friction?
Force that opposes motion between surfaces
What is work in physics?
Force applied over a distance (W = F × d)
What is energy?
The ability to do work
What is kinetic energy?
Energy of motion
What is potential energy?
Stored energy due to position
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted
What is power?
The rate of doing work or using energy
What is a wave?
A disturbance that transfers energy
What is frequency?
The number of waves per second
What is wavelength?
The distance between two wave peaks
What is amplitude?
The height of a wave from rest position
What is sound?
Vibrations that travel through matter
What is the speed of sound in air?
Approximately 343 meters per second
What is light?
Electromagnetic radiation visible to the human eye
What is the speed of light?
Approximately 300,000,000 meters per second
