What is the differences between ruby or tawny port

A

Ruby and tawny port goes to age between 1 to 3 years in barrels
Tawny ports shows browning color but not older than ruby,they go oxidative maturation in barrel called pipes.to achieve this color to they have number of options; they use less heavily etracted or lighter wines from bacio cargo, blending with white port, period of hot maturation in douro(hot maturation loss the colour) and or heavily fining to remove colour.

What is the age requirement for the reserva tawny port?

A

A reserva tawny must be wood aged minimum of 6 years.

What are the requirements for Late Bottle Vintage LBV

A

They must be aged 4 to 6 years in large barrel before bottle
The Vast majority are fined and filtered.
Small number of LBV are unfiltered and they benefit from bottle aging, needs to be decanting before serving.

What are the requirements for Tawny with an Indication of Age?

A

These wines undergo a long period of oxidative maturation in pipes
They can be labbled 10 20 30 40 years old
The age stated on the label is an average of age of the blend wine.
The label must state the year of bottling
