- Thick skin = fairly resistant to fungal
- High vigour need managing = summer pruning
- Tho most grown variety because:
colour, tannin, acidity, - juicy red and black fruit flavours and floral aromas to a blend

- early ripening + susceptible to water stress = best in rel. cooler sites
- h. yielding = needs restricting not to lack concentration
- adds body

- susceptible to heat damage, grape shrivelling = best in cooler sites (h. alt/ Nfacing) = Baixo and Cima Corgo
- h. yielding = needs restricting not to lack concentration
- not as floral, more earthy aromas
- lose acidity in warmer sites
colour = fades quicker than in T. Nacional and T. Franca - good for tawny

- susceptible to coulure = can reduce yields
- retains acidity well
- concentrated fl. of black fruit and floral
- adds colour
- adds tannin = adds structure = ageing potential = component of premium, long matured premiums
