Q

Structure of ACh nicotine receptor

A
  • 5 subunits
  • 2 alpha and one of each other one
  • so 2 ACh molecules must bind simultaneously

16
Q

barbiturates

A
  • enhances effects of GABAa by prolonging its effects
17
Q

GABAa liagnds

A
  • it has many ligands that can bind
  • the drugs themselves dont open the channels but they change the effet that GABA has when it binds at the same time
18
Q

GABAb receptors

A
  • metabotropic
  • G protein opens potassium channel and thus hyperpolarizes
  • letting k out makes it return to be more negative and thus less likely to fire
19
Q

Glutamate receptors

A
  • major excitatory because it excited and makes fire (depolarizes)
  • let in sodium
20
Q

type of glutamate receptors

A
  1. metabotropic: mGLuR
  2. inotropic: AMPA, NMDA, kainate
21
Q

AMPA

A
  • lets in sodium and potassium
  • more sodium will come in so it will depolarize and become more likely to fire
22
Q

kainate

A
  • we dont know too much about it but its similar to AMPA
23
Q

NMDA

A
  • lets sodium and calcium in only (depolarize) when enough EPSPs build up
  • voltage gated and ligand gated
  • calcium will have a host of effets and activate enzymes that will create long lasting strctural changes (like learning)
