Practicals Flashcards
(6 cards)
Which group does halogen react vigorously with? (Group on the periodic table)
group 1
What is a displacement reaction?
It is the displacement of one element by another. The more reactive element displaces the less reactive element in a compound.
What are 3 possible observations during any chemical reaction?
Colour change, bubbles, smell, smoke etc…
Reactions that took place -
Chlorine + potassium chloride
Chlorine + potassium brome
Chlorine + potassium iodide
Bromine + potassium chloride
Bromine + potassium bromide
Brome + potassium iodide
Iodine + potassium chloride
Iodine + potassium bromide
Iodine + potassium iodide
What are the word equations for the first 2?
Chlorine + potassium bromine —> potassium chloride + bromine
Chlorine + potassium iodine —> potassium chloride + iodine
Will chlorine water react with lithium flouride?
They won’t as the atoms are stable
What are some safety measures you should use during experiments?
Goggles, gloves, labcoat etc…
