A
- People became supportive of Deng due to his emancipate your minds speech so led to the ‘democracy wall’ at Bejing university in 1978 critising Hau for supporting Go4.
- Deng did not back the 5th modernisation campaign as he said it threatened stability so introduced the 4 cardinal principles which defined his leadership and said there would be economic change but not political changes.
- Deng’s victory = replaced hau with his allies like Bo Yibo in 1979 and Zhao Ziyang as state premier, Deng was recognised as paramount leader.
