Q

Transcription

A

Relevant gene in DNA in nucleus, copied into mRNA
DNA unzips with DNA helicase
Sense strand=template, free RNA nucleotides complementary base pair to expose bases on strand, form hydrogen bonds.
RNA polymerase forms phosphodiester bonds between nucleotides
MRNA detaches from sense strand
2 DNA strands join together, back into helix
Spliceosomes remove introns

Q

Translation

A

tRNA with specific codon brings specific amino acid, complementary to triplet in ribosome
Empty tRNA leaves to pick up another specific amino acid, ribosome moves along 1 codon
Process repeated until ribosome reads stop codon
