puberty Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is puberty?
a time in your life (ages 9-16) when your body begins to change, develop, and grow as you become an adult
what happens?
your body will begin to change
(on the outside and inside)
—> your emotions can become stronger
hormones
chemicals that your body releases (from the pituitary gland which is located at the bottom of your brain)
body changes
sweat, skin, hair
sweat
a change in hormones can cause you to sweat more which can cause body odour if you do not wash regularly
to reduce BO
- shower/bathe more regularly (use soap/shower gel)
- keep fresh throughout the day (by using anti-perspiration deodorant)
skin
your skin becomes more oily — this can cause slots to form on the face/body
to help:
- wash your face morning & night (using a gentle soap/facial cleanser) but do not wash it too often because it can irritate your skin
avoid:
- picking at spots because they can become dirty/infected and can scar
- makeup can block your pores and it is important to wash it all off before going to bed
hair
your scalp might produce more oil
different types of hair need different care
