How did slaves resist on plantations?
Working very slow and badly
Break tools
If they worked in house they would spit in food
Escape and running away
Pretending not to understand
Singing traditional songs
Pretending to be sick
Before running away they would kill or poison they owners and their family
Why was it difficult to resist on plantations?
They had no weapons
Islands were small so it was difficult to hide
Knew punishments were severe
Easily caught - rewards in newspapers etc
Always being watched
They were not fed or drank properly so they were not strong enough to take over
No leader/no traditional language - hard to organise
Types Of punishments?
Low level physically - Whipping
High level physically - limb removal
Emotional - sell family member
Making life difficult - rations, shackled
Death
