Quantative Chem Flashcards
(17 cards)
Law of conservation of mass?
Mass of products=mass of reactants
What is a half equation for?
To show what happens to one reactant in a chemical equation
What is an ionic equation?
Used to simplify complicated equations by only showing by the molecules or ions involve with a particular atom
What is a mole?
A measure of the number of particles contained in a substance (atoms, ions or molecules)
What is the avagrado constant?
6.02x10 to the 23
What is the equation for moles?
Moles=mass/relative mass
How to work out moles in a gas? (Equation)
Volume= moles x 24 dm (cubed)
What is the limiting reactant?
When one chemical is completely used up before the reaction is fully finished causing the reaction to stop
What is the excess chemical?
The chemical not fully used up in the reaction
What is the equation for concentration of a solution
Conc = moles/volume
What is a suitable indicator for a titration?
Phenolphalein
Equation for percentage yield?
Percentage yield= (yield from reaction/ max theoretical yield) x100
What is the equation for atom economy?
Atom Eco=(relative mass of desired product/ sum of relative mass of all the reactants or products) x100
What is a displacement reaction?
When a more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal from a solution of its salt
What is an extraction of metals?
When metals less reactive than carbon are heated with carbon to remove their oxides
What is a strong acid?
When they are completely ionised, have a higher concentration of hydrogen ions and a low pH
What is a weak acid?
Not completely ioninsed, low amount of hydrogen ions so higher pH
