what’s the example of a questionnaire study
Alice Sullivan- class, cultural capital and achievement
-collected data of 465 pupils in 4 skls using questionairres
-asked abt parents educational qualifications, involvement in culture activities, ie.trips/ reading
-found link between performance in GCSEs and high levels of cultural cap
-found cultural cap depended on class background
-parents income helped provide better education performance regardless of cultural cap
strengths of questionaires
+ representative - mass results completed (465)
+reliable- same questionnaire to all students across different skls
+practical, easy to conduct only requires small amount of time and doesn’t impact learning , dont have to pay for training- cheap
+ethical, overt (Sullivan) not deceiving, no harm on kids
+ no researcher bias as its DETATCHED
+ high response rate
+anonymous - useful for bullying
limitations of questionnaires
-low in validity -may want social desirability so may lie to what teachers want to hear
-low response rates (theoretical) kids may loose it
-wc may misinterpret questions, low literacy levels cant ask follow up, low validity
-detatvhed method, no follow up q or clarifications
-limited engagement , pupils may rush through them and not take seriously reducing reliability
-interprtivists- lack verstehen/ why and dont capture class culture
